Running a WordPress site can be a lucrative business, but it’s not without its pitfalls. Without the right knowledge of how to set up your site properly from the beginning, you could lose out on thousands of dollars in potential revenue — and that’s before you take into account the money you’ll lose fixing issues created by bad design. For five tips for getting your WordPress site off on the right foot, see this article.

Set up your WordPress site properly to avoid mistakes

There are a few simple steps you can take to ensure that when you post to your WordPress blog, your content will show up on your blog. First you’ll need to install the Jetpack plugin which will allow you to post directly to your blog from your WordPress admin area. Once you’re in the plugin area, you can access Jetpack options. From here you can enable the post to go live automatically when your blog receives an HTTP request. The steps you need to follow depend on if you want to stick it into CMS or use an external blog system. If you’re keeping it in WordPress you may want to follow the above steps (which is what I did) to enable the plugin itself, or simply set up your WordPress blog’s URL to point to your Jetpack. If you’re using an external CMS system, you can follow the installation steps here to activate the plugin. Once that’s done, load your URL to your blog into your theme’s configuration.

Note that there will be some duplicate posts from posts you have published on your blog. Those duplicate posts will be provided with their own URLs in the admin area under the ‘Duplicates’ tab. This makes sense so you can choose which one is seen by your readers. If you’re looking to publish regularly, you may think that the time is now to simply post “any post” to your blog.

Choose the right theme to give your users what they want

A lot of the time, the right theme is the one that speaks to your users and allows them to do what they want to do. If you have a shopping app, for example, it’s important to pick a theme with a shopping cart that’s easy to use and looks professional. A lot of people will take advantage of unscrupulous sites that take advantage of others by using stock photography or other low-quality imagery. So before you sign up for an account and start getting content, make sure to do a little research. Read over the terms and conditions of the site you plan on using to make sure the photographer or model you’re using is actually OK under their terms. It might not be right for everyone — who’s to say it’s not right for you? — but make sure the rights-holder involved is actually OK and that there’s actually a legitimate reason for using their content.

There are a whole bunch of ways you can make money from a WordPress site, but you’re in control of how you spend your money. This is your blog. Investing is how you make money. If you want to build a WordPress blog so you can start making money from it, here’s a comprehensive guide you can follow. Starting up a blog is free, and hosting is something all bloggers need to do — for free — for a while first so they know what the process is like. The more you blog the more likely you’ll make money, but it will take some time to get there. So don’t rush it. Once you’ve got your foot in the door, make sure to invest and grow so you can start making more money.

For one, if you have an established brand on Facebook, keep it that way. Don’t try and break into a new space by joining Instagram or Pinterest — those platforms are too competitive, but they are okay for now.

Make sure you’re optimizing your site for search engines (and make more money)

If you want to make money from your website, you need to make sure it’s easy to find. Search engines, like Google and Bing, are constantly changing their algorithms and if you aren’t using the right keywords and titles, you won’t show up in search results. Without a good title and meta description for your WordPress posts, they’ll be considered irrelevant which hurts your search ranking. Over 57,000 businesses use WordPress to host their site and whilst they can be a great platform for building a strong website, they can also be quite robust, so there are a lot of things you need to look out for if you want them to make money from your site.

Obtain the necessary hardware, software and training to get set up correctly before you start offering online services to clients. Make sure you hire experts to help you out. You wouldn’t set up your own computer or get your own electricity online without the help of knowledgeable people. Day to day tasks such as posting content to a wordpress blog and creating custom user accounts can be kept on task sheets which can be shared to the whole team. Managing the different content pieces for your online business is very similar to the kitchen counter in the office and if you want to make money from your website, you need to keep them all in order. Sort out any issues on your website which cause people to bounce or cut off the offer in the checkout process. Provide a good customer service experience…many people rely on the fact that a good store experience and good service means that they’ll buy more. They won’t, of course, but they trust what you were selling, so how can you win them back? Treat your customers with respect. Whatever service you offer, treat it with care.

Be prepared to market and promote your site in a variety of ways

If your site doesn’t have traffic, then it’s not going to make any money. In order to get people to your site, you need to market it and promote it. Blogging consistently and building an audience is a great way to get traffic. Google Ads, Facebook ads, and Twitter are other great ways to generate traffic. Running a WordPress site means getting all the technical aspects of running a site down, starting with blog design. WordPress is a content management system, a place where you can store all of your blog posts and pages for yourself or a community to use. What we’ll be looking at today are steps you can take to make sure your blog looks great while running a WordPress site. Before adding a picture to your cover photo or uploading a file, we’re going to cover the differences between headings, body text, and subtitles within your WordPress blog posts. Understanding these three types of content will help you set everything up correctly later on.

Headings allow you to use adjectives in your headings that are related to the content we’ve just seen. Headings are very common in blog posts, and you can easily build up your blog post with helpful headings without having to create many paragraphs. Body text adds sentences or messages to a paragraph of text editorially separated from the beginning of the page. For example, this text beneath the image of a ticket’s current status reads, “Attention: This ticket’s status has expired.” The reason this works is because this paragraph is not on the same line as the image of the ticket. The image of the ticket links back to the same paragraph, which is why this is considered body text. Subtitles are removed from the left-hand margin of the page. You can add subtitles manually to your posts — or, more importantly, in your theme files.
